The Ikeji of the Arochukwu Kingdom is a remarkable period during which the residents of Arochukwu are expected to uphold the highest moral standards, customs, and traditions of their kingdom. Throughout this time, the community strictly forbids both burials and mourning gatherings. Any form of violence or brutality is not tolerated, and acts of civil disobedience and public fights are completely prohibited throughout the entire kingdom. The passing of any Aro individual during the Ikeji period is widely regarded as an ill omen and is therefore handled with utmost respect and dignity. This period is dedicated to righteousness, thanksgiving, entertainment, charity, philanthropy, and leisure activities.

Ikeji offers a distinctive opportunity to celebrate the traditions and culture of Arochukwu in their most authentic form. It also serves as a platform for endless entertainment, tourism, and reunions with cultural delegations from affiliated Aro settlements, which are spread across more than 350 communities in Igbo land and beyond. The festival includes seminars and lectures on Aro cultures, visits to historic cultural sites, libation ceremonies, the exchange of kola nuts and goodwill, paying homage to Aro traditional institutions, masquerades, traditional dances, diverse cultural exhibitions, and much more.
Furthermore, Ikeji provides a time for communing with ancestors, reconciliation, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and self-help development projects. This period witnesses an influx of visitors and tourists to Arochukwu. Sons and daughters from all corners of the world return to their homeland to partake in various cultural displays, festivities, exchange visits, and even marriages. The Ikeji Festival also promotes business expansion and the forging of new friendships. It is a time to draw close to nature, reaffirm one's faith in Aro culture, reconnect with family and friends, and witness the revival of the original culture and traditions.
